Let’s Talk Aegir
Aegir (Ægir) Divers started inadvertently three generations ago when a young Norwegian gentleman sailed into Melbourne through Port Phillip. On his ship’s departure, thinking that this was the place for him, he literally jumped ship and swam to shore where he built his life and his family. His name was Anker Olaf Pederson and as he looked and sounded like a Swede - but wasn’t one, he was given the nickname ‘Turnip’.
His Great-Grandson (Bert) is the founder of Aegir Divers which takes its name from Norse mythology. ‘In Norse mythology, ‘Ægir’ is a primordial being often associated with the sea and oceans. He is a jötunn (giant), but his role and character are somewhat distinct from other giants, as he is portrayed more as a force of nature than an enemy of the gods.
Ægir's domain is the ocean, and he is particularly known for his power over storms, waves, and the depths of the sea.’ ‘Overall, Ægir is a complex figure in Norse mythology—he is both an ally and a potential threat, a symbol of the awe-inspiring and often unpredictable forces of nature that the Norse people respected.’
While we may still wield axes for our work (and in spirit), our Norwegian heritage no longer revolves around Viking-like acts; instead, we focus on developing functional, efficient, and precise services.
We take pride in recognising, that each day, we are delivering the same, albeit more modern services that our seafaring forefathers once provided. We recognise the effort and techniques that these tradespeople had to invent, perfect and adapt to support their craft, all while navigating the inherent challenges of working on and beneath the sea.
What sets us apart isn’t just our experience, learned skills, and the ability to deliver results, but also a complete absence of ego. This is our distinctive trait—no ego. Above all, we cherish the collaboration and satisfaction that comes from working alongside other good humans, to turn challenging tasks into fulfilling endeavours.
Aegir Divers is based on the picturesque Mornington Peninsula and can provide all of our services across Victoria and interstate. We hold a fervent dedication to our brand identity.
