Who is Aegir?

(pronounced “EYE-girr”)
Aegir (Ægir) is a Sea Giant of Old Norse mythology. The king of the ocean and the source of energy within the waves.

Aegir Divers started inadvertently three generations ago when a young Norwegian gentleman sailed into Melbourne through Port Phillip. On his ship’s departure, thinking that this was the place for him, he literally jumped ship and swam to shore, where he built his life and his family. His name was Anker Olaf Pederson, and as he looked and sounded like a Swede - but wasn’t one - he was given the nickname ‘Turnip’.

His Great-Grandson (Bert) is the founder of Aegir Divers, taking its name from this Norse mythology in honour of Anker and Bert’s Norwegian heritage.
